1988 GT Avalanche Overview

1988 was the first year of GT’s Triple Triangle design. The Karakoram of that year had a full Deore group with the grey cracked paintjob. The Avalanche was the top-of-the-line model with 992 U-brakes front and rear and a Suntour 9010/XCD-6000 mix. with the GT BMX Power Series cranks adapted for a Mtn bike

GT seemd to be going all the way to have a unique MTB for the Avalanche in 1988, they apprently went to Suntour and Dia-Compe  to get custom painted components for the Avalanche.

The Brake levers, UBrakes, Hubs, Headset and Pedals were painted in Anthracite,

Derailuers were painted two tone White/Anthracite along with the shifter bodies were painted White.

They then look to their own product and painted the stem to match and made a few new pieces for their wildly popular “Power Series” Cranks , and made adapters to mount the cranks on a std Square Taper Bottom Bracket along with a new Spider for the triple chainrings. cover all of that in white paint and a unique logo
